We currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Testing Technician in the Technical Service Department.
The TS Lab has a key role in delivering product test data for Aerospace customer qualifications, product re-sites, problem resolution and in support of product development activities.
This Mechanical Testing Technician role will primarily involve the mechanical testing of adhesive and composite materials using various industry or customer test standards. The role may also require secondary tasks of physical (non-analytical) testing, composite/adhesive panel fabrication and machining.
Training will be provided to a successful candidate who does not have specific mechanical testing experience. However preference will be shown to candidates who can demonstrate a proven background of operating mechanical test equipment.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

Job Description
  • Reporting directly to the TS Lab Leader.
  • Working a three-shift pattern, Monday to Friday. Overtime will be expected on occasion, to meet business demands.
  • Expected to demonstrate and promote strong safety culture adherence.
  • Destructive mechanical testing of a broad range of composite and adhesive specimen types
  • Assure all data and inspection plans are accurate in LIMS.
  • Work collaboratively at all times to support all functions, customers, and suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work carried out.  Manage projects and project documentation to an externally auditable level.
  • The execution of work through the testing process to ensure its timely completion in line with Key X’s.
  • Ensure high levels of housekeeping are maintained.

Education and Experience

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:
  • Have 5 GCSE/O-Levels at grade 4/C or above. Must include Maths, English and a Science subject.
  • Must possess the ability to read English and comprehend technical writing; as found in customer specifications and other relevant documentation.
  • Computer literate (experience of using Excel & Word).
  • Experience of working in a team environment.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
  • Educated to A Level (Science subject) or HNC/HND (Science /Technology subject)
  • Practical experience operating test frames in a mechanical testing environment.
  • Experience with composite panel fabrication, machining, or using universal test machines  and data acquisition software
  • Strong knowledge of composite materials covering a range of matrix & reinforcement technologies.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems
  • Three or more years working at an industrial/technology company.
