  • The development of electrical design specifications for vendor equipment and instrumentation based upon specific manufacturing and process requirements.
  • The development of functional specifications and requirements for the process control systems.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Integration contractors or Vendor firms to develop control system architecture for programmable logic controllers (PLC), human machine interfaces (HMI) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Manage process control and electrical projects including schedule, budget, testing requirements (Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Site Acceptance Test (SAT) and start-up including required documentation and approvals.
  • Provide the necessary Instrumentation and Controls support for other on site Project Managers and to support the site’s new product introduction plans.
  • Responsible for the development of future electrical, process control and automation projects through a gated process including project evaluation, assessment, definition, design, execution and start-up.
  • Supervise and manage outside contractors (both design and field construction), as necessary to complete project work. Contract work must follow all local safety requirements.
  • Conduct appropriate safety reviews during the engineering definition, interlock and alarm design and testing as required.
  • Increased focus over time on the use of automation for process and productivity improvements interacting with the site operations team.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

The instrumentation and Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, installation and support of the process control systems in the batch chemical manufacturing facility.  This includes the control system itself as well as the connected motors, drives and process instrumentation. Responsibilities include:
