Technical Services Representative - Alumina Processing Chemicals

    • The candidate’s primary objective is to provide best in class technical service and customer support in the use of our products and to ensure the Sales Account Manager is supported, informed and assisted to achieve the commercial objectives of the Alumina Processing Chemicals business
    • Support new prospects and existing business by conducting lab work to explore new opportunities both NPI (New Product Introduction) and non-NPI providing laboratory and plant trial design, statistical evaluation of options and recommendations.
    • Provide timely and detailed reports of all laboratory and plant test programs to customers or the Applications Development Representative.
    • Provide a source of technical information, information retrieval, written expertise, methodology and technical case study in support of AP business development strategies.  Where necessary, devise systems and/or use available Solvay electronic or hardcopy media for the retrieval of these resources by Solvay staff.   Ensure that such information is accessible, accurate and current.
    • Deliver technical projects of a scope, quality and schedule as agreed with the Account Manager and Regional Sales Manager, in accordance with regional or account strategic planning.
    • Defend current business and lead/support trial activities including NPI (New Product Introduction) and non-NPI.
    • Ensure and maintain multi-level contact at Refineries located in Queensland, Australia, in a planned and disciplined manner so as to facilitate the timely execution of project plans through sound commercial relationships.
    • Take the lead on collecting customer data, conduct analysis and provide recommendation to the Sales Account Manager to advance projects and/or exploit new opportunities
    • Support customers and sales representatives in resolving non-routine technical issues and troubleshooting.
    • Apply and safeguard the application of Solvay safety regulations in all circumstances
    • Ensure compliance to internal reporting requirement including but not limited to call report / service report / call out report / monthly highlight / trial proposal / trial report etc.
    • Comply to Solvay policies such as code of conduct, anti-bribery, anti-trust, business travel expense guidelines etc.
  • Qualifications

    A successful candidate will:

    • Possess a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering, metallurgy or chemistry.
    • At least 2 years‘ experience in a related field, preferably Alumina Processing and/or Experience in the technical service function in a related field. 
    • Hands on, experience in laboratory work and familiar with laboratory procedure
    • Be familiar with statistical analysis, software packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and any design of experiment and analysis software (e.g.JMP)
    • Be a self-motivator with skills in problem solving
    • Demonstrate good technical and commercial sense with a high focus on value selling
    • Desire to build excellent customer relationships while promoting Solvay products to the benefit of the client.

    • Willing to travel or be on customer site at least 60% of their time
