Payroll Coordinator

The Payroll Coordinator will be part of the Solvay Business Services Payroll team, with a

primary focus on the processing of payroll. The team processes payroll for Canada, Mexico, and

the US. The incumbent will be responsible for performing the daily data entry associated with

updating and maintaining the system in order to provide accurate payment to employees.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the processing of multi-company, multi-state payroll, including the set-up of new states and associated tax jurisdictions as needed
  • Write, maintain, and support a variety of reports or queries using appropriate reporting tools
  • Help maintain data integrity in systems by running queries and analyzing data
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for exceptions to the normal payroll process (e.g. new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations)
  • Manage and process commissions, bonuses, incentives, and on-call pay for all employees
  • Upload ACH funding files for semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls
  • Communicate payroll policies and procedures to management and employees
  • Accurate data entry into payroll systems
  • Track and maintain all ID’s associated with each entity and state
  • Assist with various payroll-related tasks as needed, including, but not limited to,
  • processing tax and unemployment issues, assisting with quarterly and year-end reporting, etc.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent. Bachelor's Degree in Business, HR, or related field is desired
  • At least 5 years’ of experience in payroll administration in a midsize to large company.
  • Knowledge and experience with payroll software is required. SAP Payroll experience is a plus.
  • FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certified) required or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) highly desired
  • Knowledge of payroll practices and regulations in the US (including multi-state), Canada and Mexico. Experience with payroll in Mexico is highly desired.
  • Strong accounting background is a plus

  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to research, analyze and retrieve data and answer employee inquiries
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Must possess strong PC skills, Microsoft Office - Word, Excel; and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Ability to prioritize workload to meet processing deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate with others outside of the department and third parties

  • Fluency in Spanish is mandatory
