The Application Platforms Technology Manager is a member of the Specialty Polymers RD&T leadership team, reporting to the RD&T Director and is based in Bollate, Italy. This role is critical in order to further develop the R&D application capabilities to respond to growing and fast-evolving customer needs and to drive and support our product R&D teams by a deep understanding of how our customers use and extract the most value from our materials.
Job Overview and Responsibilities:
Develop and lead implementation of the appropriate Technology Strategy for the application platforms.
Maintain where existing, further develop and/or initiate as required deep application know-how in elected key areas to drive or support our product R&D in the same markets.
Manage and lead a medium to large team of Scientists/Researchers with interdisciplinary expertise, constantly developing skills and mentality of excellence in application, onboarding new talent as required
Provide leadership in balancing the R&D Project Portfolio (Risk / Reward; Total Value; Strategic Alignment) and making effective strategic and operational decisions
Develop annual budgets and performance plans for your scope
Set direction, align resources, and foster an engaging environment for employees.
Implement the career management process for R&D Scientists/Researchers; create opportunities for personal growth and development of employees; coach employees to achieve higher performance levels.
Provide balanced technology perspectives to the Business.
Represent R&D in selected priority growth areas or on ad hoc business projects.
Liaise with other Product Lines / Business Units / External Partners to leverage technology.
Coordinate R&D resource support needs with CTD, Manufacturing and Business Teams as needed
Education and Experience:
Advanced degree in one or more of the following areas and/or closely related disciplines
•materials science & engineering
•physics, chemistry or chemical engineering
•mechanical- or electrical- engineering
•10+ years of experience in the design and development of devices or applications associated with energy storage such as batteries, capacitors, fuel-cells, etc., and/or microelectronics device physics & the materials performance implications thereof.
•Interdisciplinary expertise in the transformation of polymeric materials into articles, often in combination with materials of different nature (organic, inorganic).
•5 years+ of demonstrated leadership and management experience
