LFT Trainee (3 to 12 months)

With over 1,500 products, Specialty Polymers offers the widest range of high performance polymers in the world, allowing tailor-made solutions for pushing further the limits of metal replacement in the electronics, automotive, aircraft and healthcare industries. The GBU has unparalleled expertise in three key plastic areas: aromatic polymers, high barrier polymers and fluoropolymers.
Recently, it has been decided to introduce long glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics (LFT) in our portfolio. Therefore, in order to support efficiently the related customer developments and R&D programs, our Computer-Aided-Engineering (CAE) team is currently analyzing the specificities of the LFT grades in terms of processing and mechanical simulations. Our CAE team has indeed a strong expertise in the simulation of short fiber reinforced polymers but the extension of our methodologies to longer fibers implies to deeply analyze elements such as the influence of the residual fiber length on the final mechanical properties or the fiber distribution in the molded part.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

In this context, to support our CAE team, we are currently looking for a trainee who will be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Analyze existing experimental data (stress-strain curves, CLTE, shrinkage …) in order to highlight main specificities of LFT grades vs. short fiber reinforced versions. Based on this preliminary study, you will be able to compare different samples used today by our CAE team in order to identify FEA material laws. Your analysis will then help our CAE experts to select the most appropriate sample candidate for the characterization of LFT grades.
  •  Define complementary tests to be performed and manage interactions with the Lab.
  •  Identify a material model for mechanical simulations using DIGIMAT (commercial software used to model the behavior of fiber-reinforced polymers in FEA codes).
  • Run Finite Element analyses to compare the performances of the identified model with the experimental data.
  •  Participate to project status meetings and present your results to the Project Technical Team.

Education and Experience

  • Your current cursus is related to Mechanical Engineering and/or Polymer/Material Engineering
  • You have a first experience with Finite Element analysis, ideally with ABAQUS.


  • You are enthusiastic and can work autonomously
  • You have analytical skill-set and simultaneously enjoy communicating with people

  •  You are Fluent in English and/or in French
