Solvay’s established position as a market leader in the supply of aerospace composites solutions continues to drive the growth of its Application Engineering team to support the evolving demands of the industry. This has been exemplified recently through numerous US OEM and Tier 1 development programmes which leverage Solvay’s proven track record of developing novel material and process technologies.
Due to the gap this demand has created, Solvay is now actively recruiting an Applications Engineer to support its developments in this region. This new role will sit within the Solvay Composite Materials business unit as part of the Research & Innovation organisation. This position will support the development of material and process solutions for highly critical advanced aerospace structures which offer performance, economic and sustainability benefits to Solvay’s customers.

Education and Experience:
The key responsibilities of this role are:
•Lead and support projects requiring material manufacturing, prototyping, tooling, and part builds from prepreg, out-of-autoclave, resin Infusion , thermoplastics, amongst other manufacturing technologies
•Identify and foster new processes for material deposition, forming and curing to support technology adoption on aerospace platforms
•Support characterisation and producibility studies of new material developments
•Interact with broader Application and R&I groups
•Support simulation analysis and development for composite part manufacturing and structural performance
•Promote Solvay technologies and articulate value proposition to customers
•Assess technology gaps for future product and process development
•Develop relationships with US aerospace OEM and Tier 1 customer base
•Support US driven development projects
•Provide technical guidance in conveying the voice of the customer
•Establish US customer network
•Support US Aero Application Engineering capability plan
Required skills & experience:
•Knowledge of composite materials and related manufacturing processes (prepreg, resin infusion, thermoplastics, thermosets, and others)
•Bachelor's Degree in Engineering within the following disciplines; Aerospace, Chemical, Materials or Mechanical. Will also consider a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Science.
•5-10 years of experience in the composite materials field working for an OEM or Tier 1 or 2 supplier on certification programs
•5 years' experience on material and/or manufacturing processes specifications
•5 years' experience on reviewing composite part designs / drawings for manufacturability and specification compliance
•3 years’ experience on Research and Development of composite materials and processing technologies
•Experience with composite material related testing protocols and standards such as ASTM, CMH-17, SAE, among others
•Driven towards action, goals and results
•Excellent communication skillsSkills:

•Master’s degree in similar disciplines or MBA
•Experience in modelling and simulation of composite part manufacturing and structural performance
