The Research Scientist is responsible for leading research and innovation projects supporting the crystalline product line for Solvay Specialty Polymers.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

Develops and characterizes new resins and/or new compounds on a laboratory scale.

Develops new process technology enabling new product development

Leads or assists in the scale-up of new formulations from laboratory/pilot plant to commercial scale.

Provides technical support to plant operations.

Collaborates with Sales & Marketing, Technical Service, customers, and suppliers to commercialize

new resins and/or formulations.

Screens and characterizes new raw materials for suitability in commercial production.

Assists in the review and monitoring of patent/scientific literature relevant to business management.

Leads or assists in external programs with universities/institutions or other Solvay entities to

evaluate emerging technologies and work with Marketing to develop commercial opportunities

Facilitates the development and professional growth of assigned technician(s).

Maintains a safe work environment for self and others.

Participates in peer and area coordinator safety audits and attend all required safety meetings &


Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Education and Experience

M.S. in Material Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering with a polymer emphasis, Polymer Chemistry or related field. Ph.D in above fields is preferred.

2+ years R&D experience with polymer resin and/or compound development.

Technical/Customer Service experience preferred.


Experience in the High Performance Polymers Industry preferred.
