The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Specialist will assist management in compliance with environmental, health safety regulations in an effort to prevent injuries and illnesses to employees in the workplace. The main focus of this position will be in environmental compliance and provide support for Industrial Hygiene and safety.  The job entails a mix of scientific and administration work, along with knowledge of environmental and safety and health legislation.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

Ensure that the company complies with all federal, state and local legislated environmental program in the areas of air quality, waste management, clean water and pollution prevent.

  • Prepare regulatory reports for air, water, and waste as required by the regulations.
  • Manager the site waste program, including Hazardous and Non Hazardous Waste.
  • Assist in the Industrial Hygiene program including risk assessments and monitoring as needed, respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs etc.
  • Assist the HSE team with environmental, safety, and health support for the site.
  • Develop and ensure Solvay North America environmental, safety, and health procedures are being implemented.
  • Provide necessary safety and health training to facility employees and contractor and Maintain records and other related documentation in association with this training.
  • Support the facility in implementation of Responsible Care Management System.
  • Review projects, changes, and activities to ensure health, safety, and environmental issues are identified and addressed.
  • Participate on the facility’s site safety council.
  • Conduct program inspections and audits, summarize key findings, develop and present recommendations for approval.
  • Participate on the Alpharetta Emergency Response Team.
  • Perform auxiliary duties as assigned by the HSE manager.
  • Education and Experience

    BS in engineering, chemistry, biology, or occupational health and safety.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience preferably in a laboratory and manufacturing environment.
  • Skills

    Knowledgeable in EPA, OSHA, federal and state regulations

  • Experience working at chemical, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical facility.
  • Knowledgeable in SPCC, RCRA, air and water permits.
  • CHMM, CIH or CSP credential or ability to obtain in 1-2 years.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication;
  • Strong technical aptitude, including the ability to quickly and efficiently learn applications, systems, policies and procedures.
